There’s something about experiencing a situation through drama, seeing the outcome of decisions, understanding the consequences of actions on characters you care about, that elicits an emotional response that really stays with an audience. It’s a case of showing not telling.
We’re used to watching drama for pleasure, so it can substantially raise the level of audience engagement for learning or communications.
But audience expectations these days are higher than they used to be, such is the widespread availability of quality drama on TV and on streaming services. Our filmmaking pedigree allows us to make brilliant, engaging and high quality corporate drama.
Images are from a recent learning-based corporate drama for a global professional services firm.
For his second book, Yvann Rodic - aka the Facehunter - and publisher Thames & Hudson wanted a film that conveyed the unique life of this award-winning fashion photographer.
Travelling around the world, capturing images of uniqueness, style and beauty - Yvann has a huge following on social media and in the fashion world.
The accompanying launch film needed to be very special, so we travelled to Europe to follow Yvann at work during Paris Fashion Week.
The resulting film has been seen over 50,000 times across a variety of media.
During a period when the Nintendo Wii was gaining market share Sony wanted to communicate to senior staff members that the firm had a response coming in the form of the Playstation Move Controller.
The task was to create a film that could be unveiled at Sony's European Staff Conference to excite and communicate the key differential features of the coming controller.
They also wanted to pay tribute to Nintendo and acknowledge what their competitor had achieved, without naming them directly.
The resulting film, written and directed by Douglas Ray, pays homage to Stanley Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey while taking a tongue in cheek look at some of the differences between the two controllers.

The Alliance for Financial Inclusion was formed in 2009 to co-ordinate the efforts of numerous Central Banks from the developing world in driving financial inclusion.
AFI set itself the aim of improving access to the financial system for the very poorest in the world, with funding from the German development fund, GiZ and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
We have exclusively provided video services to AFI since the beginning and continue to do so. This has involved filming case studies of leading lights in the AFI network as well as travelling around the world to cover conferences and events for the organisation.
We have created work for both external and internal communications, primarily live action film and animation.
An engaging, well-produced film can cut through and grab attention, whether it's a promo, a documentary piece, drama or an explainer animation.
We produced the launch video for the upcoming KDD Conference in London in 2018.
KDD is the pre-eminent conference on Data Mining, Data Science and analytics and it is to be hosted in London for the first time.
We worked closely with organisations including Hackney Council and Imperial College London, one of the world’s leading academic institutions in data science and analytics, to announce the conference to the world’s scientific community.
Marshall eLearning commissioned us to film a series of short dramatic scenes for their work-based learning products.
The films cover a range of work-related, real-world scenarios. Viewers learn from the mistakes of a group of characters working at a design company.

The Property Panel was a major, consumer-facing campaign for HSBC written and directed by Douglas Ray. It explained and demystified the property purchasing process.
It consisted of multi-format branded content that was filmed and presented in the style of a lifestyle TV show and was produced independently of the client.
The campaign featured a studio-based panel of experts discussing different areas of property buying in each episode, together with short films following real property buyers and their experiences. New episodes were released on a weekly basis.
Rather than a hard sell of HSBC products, the aim was to create a genuinely useful resource for people considering purchasing a property and associate the brand with mortgages and other related services.
